From observation, I think that kodak has the fastest shutter speed than any other standardised digital camera. I have compared a cheap kodak (worth $87) to cameras, worth over $200 (canon, sony etc), it was kodak that had won the fastest shutter speed of less than 1 second. You will notice that kodak are not frequent in producing cameras and that none of them are covered with metal material, but rather plastic, as such they are not making much business in sales.
If you have come across any standardised digital camera with a shutter speed of less than 1 second, please let me know! Would like to hear from you.

hey anita
bruce's digital cam (IXUS 980IS - 14mpx) has a manual function. It has 45 distinct shutter speed values but only with manual mode. The fastest shutter speed he could take photos with is 1/600 of a second. The slowest is 15seconds. Thing is i think he can only look through the view-finder and not on the LCD screen (I think from memory)
hope this helps.
thanks leona!
must go and have a look at this camera now.
